I tried tormenting a well-known search engine with various combinations of search terms, but none of the results it came up with really matched the problem at hand.Īt this point I tried the workaround I mentioned before, opening the file in MS Paint here, printing worked as expected. I vaguely remembered that on Windows 8/8.1, one supposedly can print by accessing the printer through the "charms" bar or whatever it is called on the right hand of the screen. This, really, is was strikes me as strange - printing images is something people commonly do, is it not? Hitting Ctrl+P had no effect, either. The menu bar had a Print item, but it was disabled (greyed out).

She had opened one of the documents (they were stored as JPG) in Windows 8.1's builtin photo viewer. One of our users just called me with a rather strange problem (at least to me): Somebody had sent her a few scanned documents, and she wanted to print them. It is, however, sufficiently strange that my inner support guy just needs to know what is going on here. First of all, let me point out I found an easy workaround, so this is not urgent.
